Monguelfo/Welsberg Castle (walk up along the castle trail)

Monguelfo/Welsberg Castle, built in 1140, occupies a spur of rock above the village of the same name. Its most striking characteristic is the unusually tall and slim keep. It served as a look-out point and as a bulwark against attackers.

The castle trail provides an interesting, easy walk leading through varied countryside and lasting one and a half hours. It passes Monguelfo Castle, the Gsies Valley stream and the ruins of Thurn Castle. School children from the village have embellished the route with pictures. The castle is a venue for concerts and exhibitions in summer.
