Listen up, gourmands! Delicacies from the bakery are waiting for you at the traditional Brixen bread and strudel market.
Crispy flat bread called „Schüttelbrot”, succulent buns from Val Venosta/Vinschgau, or aromatic bread from Val Pusteria/Pustertal –bread has a long and diverse tradition in South Tyrol. In the course of centuries, every valley developed its own special bread types. The delicious recipes are often well-kept secrets that are passed on from generation to generation.
A visit to the traditional Brixen bread and strudel market is an indispensable experience during your family holiday. At this market, which takes place every autumn on the square in front of the picturesque cathedral, you can immerse yourself in the world of bread. It will excite you and your children, because there are lots of things to discover and to taste during the traditional event. The historic “Vom Korn zum Brot” course (“From grain to bread”) offers interesting insights into the long baking tradition of this region. Look over the farmers’ shoulders when they thresh the grain, experience how the corn is processed into flour, and watch the bakers while they knead and form the dough.
