Let the fun begin!

Colourful Carnival time

We’re big fans of Carnival and have already come up with a couple of cool costumes. How about you?

16 February is the so-called “crazy Thursday” here in South Tyrol, and we can’t wait for all the Carnival parades that will be taking place throughout the region – and also around our accommodation in the Dolomites. Depending on the location, the parades are accompanied by traditional figures, such as the “Schnappviechern” in Bassa Atesina/Unterland, “Perkeo” in Salorno, or the “Zussln” in Prad am Stilfserjoch. The famous “Egetmann” parade in Tramin takes place during odd years – which means it’s being held this year, too. The Carnival fun then continues on Carnival Monday and Shrove Tuesday, before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Princesses, pirates, knights, witches, cowboys (and -girls) … what will you and your kids dress up as this year? Give your imagination free rein and take part in the numerous events throughout South Tyrol. You’ll find even more event tips to make your family holiday extra special here.
