Numerous scenic paths lead to a hut called the Mitterleger (6,033 ft/1,839 m), from where the a ‘Labyrinth trail’ leads through a weird area of boulders, the result of a massive rock fall and is a fascinating, magical landscape in both summer and winter.
The path leaves this extraordinarily photogenic section after a walk of around 30 minutes. Continue uphill for a short distance to the Latemar meadows (6,260 ft/1,908 m), located directly beneath the vertical towers and walls of the Latemar massif, where you come onto the trail marked 18. Keep to the left and this route will take you back to the starting point in around 30 minutes, passing the Ochsenhütte (herdsmen’s hut – 5,981 ft/1,823 m).
