South Tyrol is in bloom!

The most beautiful gardens and parks for families

Can you smell it? The scent of spring flowers is in the air – especially in the botanical gardens in South Tyrol!

Yasim looks around. He’s never seen so many flowers in his whole life. They look like a huge sea – one that’s dotted with a rainbow of colours and is waving gently in the breeze. He can’t pull his eyes away as he strolls past the tulip-filled slopes. Yasim didn’t even know that tulips came in so many different colours! Mum and her friend are also enchanted, snapping one photo after another and pointing out especially unusual kinds that they’ve never seen before. Large flower heads, frayed petals, beautiful colour gradients. What a pity that his little sister Mia is still just a bit too small to really understand how amazing the flowers are in the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. She’s sitting happily in her stroller, looking around as the family heads down from the expanses of tulips to the lily pond. Over an ice cream, the three bigger ones all tell each other what they enjoyed most about their visit to the 12-hectare gardens. During spring, they’re a real visitor magnet and attract guests of all ages from near and far. And that’s no surprise, as they’re also the most famous gardens in South Tyrol and always well worth a visit!

There are also lots of other parks and green spaces in South Tyrol that invite you to stroll, soak up the sun, and marvel. In the spa gardens in Merano, for example, you can wander under palm trees and between colourful flowerbeds. You can really feel the typical Mediterranean atmosphere that Merano is known for. It’s a place where peaks meet palm trees, creating a unique setting.

If you’re looking for parks around Bolzano, we recommend the Talvera/Talfer meadows. They not only invite you to picnic and relax, but also have playgrounds, a skate park, and a mini-golf course that active kids and sports fans will love. And there’s also the 5km-long Freud promenade that begins in Oberbozen. It’s dedicated to the famous Sigmund Freud and is the only promenade to be named after him! It leads past sprawling Alpine meadows and dense forests to the village of Klobenstein, with fantastic views of Mt Sciliar/Schlern. Early summer has so many delights in store!
