Golden days and quiet paths
Adventure mode: on!
Rustling leaves and warm sunshine create special magic in the Dolomites. Autumn invites you to explore colourful forests and quiet nature trails together with your loved ones.
It’s a cosy Sunday morning in October. The sun is still low in the sky and bathes the Dolomites region in a soft, golden light. Mums Petra and Julia lace up their hiking boots, and their son Emil does the same.
Together with Grandma and Grandpa, they excitedly set off on a hike along the Lake Dobbiaco/Toblacher See nature trail, where the larch trees are enchantingly reflected in the crystal-clear water. The trail is easy to walk, even with a pushchair, and has an elevation gain of just 60 metres – no huffing and puffing required! A total of 11 stations provide fascinating information about the flora, fauna, and geomorphology of the area. Along the way, the family stops for a little break at a rest area. Grandma unpacks slices of her home-baked apple strudel, which everyone tucks into with gusto. It’s just the thing to replenish their energy! Then they hit the trail again to finish their circular walk, which is around 8 kilometres long.
There are also plenty of wonders to experience on autumn hikes in St. Vigil, like the “Tru dles liondes” legend trail. It tells the legend of the king’s daughter Dolasilla from the kingdom of Fanes. It’s full of marmots and golden eagles, battles between princes and knights, terrible monsters and princesses. Over a total length of 3.3 kilometres, you can immerse yourself in the legendary world of the Dolomites. The trail starts in the district of Bagn and leads along the Rio Rudo/Rudobach stream and across the Ciamaur sports field to the Fanes-Senes-Braies/Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park House.
Autumn in the Dolomites is about more than just bright colours and clear mountain air. It’s about the special connection between nature, humans, and tradition. Enjoy autumn to the fullest and embark on exciting adventures that your kids will rave about for years – the forest awaits!
