Melanie - years oldNature at its purest: why you and your family will love in the Familienhotel Alpin

An ALPINe weekend: the name says it all

The Pflersch Valley? Well of course I’ve heard of it, but I have never actually been there. Just as well – because I can set off with my family to discover a part of South Tyrol that will be completely new for us.
Sliding into a kids’ paradise – and more besides
At Sterzing we leave the motorway and head for Gossensass and on to Pflersch.
Albert, the owner and guiding light of the Familienhotel Alpin, welcomes all three of us with a warm smile. Our third-floor room is ready and we immediately step out onto the balcony to breathe in the inimitably fresh mountain air that only such valleys can offer. It is as if the mountain were fanning our faces.

Cow bells rouse me from my thoughts and I hear a “moo” beside me – my daughter Norah has already spotted the beasts grazing placidly on the lush green meadows of the nearby farm.

The first must-do is the “kids’ paradise”. It is exactly as each child imagines heaven to be – a play area on two floors! The highlight is a slide between the two floors. It is not just Norah who has lots of fun: her parents do too. Like three explorers, we creep together through the labyrinth that leads to the next slide, duck our heads, whisper to one another and use sign language to communicate. Whoosh – down to the bottom. And look – a small bouldering wall, something Dad simply can’t resist! I prefer table football and challenge my two darlings to a duel. Goaaal!! No prizes for guessing who won that one.

We settle down in our room for a well-earned rest… But no, wrong this time!! Dad discovers the ball in the suitcase and is already preparing our daughter for our next visit (yes, we want to come here again!): Albert has told us that the Hotel Alpin organises proper football training for kids with a personal trainer and all the rest. The football pitch is located right next to the hotel.

The name says it all: Alpine holiday fun at the Hotel Alpin
In the meantime we are now hungry and fortunately it is already dinner-time. A selection of pleasant aromas wafts through the dining room. We munch our way through the delicious menu and afterwards fall happily into our soft beds, accompanied by the familiar sound of cowbells. The name says it all at the Hotel Alpin: it doesn’t get much more Alpine than this.

The beautiful weather next morning means we decide to take the gentle path to the nearby climbing wall, past a small, picturesque pond where we see tadpoles swimming: I inhale the fresh morning air and enjoy the peacefulness of the mountain world.
Wow! The climbing wall is really good! Ideal for rock climbers, it also features barbecue ovens, a small playground, tables and benches and is located in the midst of a shaded forest.

We will definitely be coming back here, as such a pure nature experience is a rarity in our everyday lives. The Pflersch Valley has nevertheless retained all of its charms!
