Farm. Check. Happiness. Check.
The ultimate checklist for family farm visits
Petting cows, hunting for eggs, jumping in the hay: what children simply must experience on a South Tyrolean farm. A checklist to print out and tick off.
There are some things that children simply must experience at least once in their lives. A visit to a farm, for example – including adventures of all shapes and sizes. With dirty hands, wide eyes, and that smell in their noses that they’ll never forget. Here is our farm-visit checklist to print out, take with you, and tick off.
☐ Collect a warm egg from the nest
Gently slipping your hand into the straw and feeling how warm it still is. A unique experience that makes it clear that eggs don’t just come from the supermarket.
☐ Watch a cow eat
That crunching sound, that stillness while chewing, that enormous tongue moving slowly. Watching a cow eat is fascinating. For adults, too.
☐ Bottle-feed a calf
It keeps pulling and pulling, all the while looking at you as if you were the most important person in the world. Absolutely adorable.
☐ Find a cat that’s hiding in the hay
It’s definitely in there somewhere. You just need to be patient – or offer some treats.
☐ Make your own butter
Pour in the milk, put the lid on, and then: shake, shake, shake until the butter is ready. A slightly different kind of bicep workout.
☐ Walk barefoot across a dew-covered meadow
It’s cold and wet, but incredibly refreshing. A morning run across the dew-covered meadow will invigorate your senses and delight your children.
☐ Try some bread from the wood-fired oven
Best served warm. Topped with homemade butter, this crunchy farmhouse bread is a real treat.
☐ Jump in the hay until your hair looks like a haystack, too!
Garden trampolines are a thing of the past; now it’s all about jumping in the hay. Wonderfully soft. Wonderfully fragrant.
☐ Take a closer look at a tractor
It’s tall, loud, and impressive. You might even get to have a sit in it yourself.
☐ Drink fresh milk, still warm
It tastes different from the carton. Some children are sceptical until they try it.
☐ Feed a goat that eats out of your hand
Tickly, fun, and a little bit slimy – that’s what it feels like when you feed a goat.
