Bored? No chance!
5 active games for your kids
“I’m bored.” You definitely won’t be hearing that phrase this summer. Here are 5 active games that your kids will really love.
You know the story. Ten minutes after breakfast, with glorious summer weather outside, a child stands next to you and utters the most dreaded of all phrases: “I’m bored!” We’re going to change that, because we have 5 active games for you, your kids, and all their friends that we know you’ll all absolutely love.
Activity 1: tree guardian
Somewhere out there is a tree that needs guarding. One person is the guard, and everyone else tries to get past them without being touched. It’s trickier than it sounds. Anyone caught three times becomes a guard themselves. Anyone who cheats won’t get any sparkling apple juice. Or ice cream. Those are the rules.
Activity 2: balancing expedition
Get from A to B, but the floor is lava. What to do? Balance on stones, tree stumps, wooden walkways, or walls without touching the “off-limits” ground. If you fall, you start again from the beginning. Nature provides plenty of props for an expedition that could easily last an hour. Or three. It all depends on the course you choose.
Activity 3: hill Olympics
You need: a hill. The tasks: Who can roll the farthest? Who can climb up the fastest backwards? Who can walk straight ahead with their eyes closed and actually stay on a straight path? Please note: that last one always goes wrong. But it’s always funny. Hair full of grass, a shirt coloured in various shades of green, a big grin from ear to ear. That’s exactly what summer fun looks like.
Activity 4: animal sounds relay
One course, a different animal on every lap. Hop around like a frog, walk sideways like a crab, waddle like a penguin. Whoever laughs has to run again. Whoever makes the loudest imitation of the animal’s sound gets a bonus point. That’s the best bit.
Activity 5: the detective walk
A walk around outside with a mission. Along the way, you need to spot at least five different insects, name three different flowers, and find a stone that looks like an animal. The first person to collect them all wins. What are the prizes? That doesn’t matter. The children are so busy that they forget all about them.
