Feel-good blue beats November blues
Warmth, water, and well-being for the whole family
Fog outside, feel-good time inside: in November, wellness becomes a family adventure where even the little ones get to relax.
A thick fog hangs over the valley. A fine drizzle is falling, and a cool wind whistles around the corner. Your diary: packed to the brim. And the children’s is too. School, hobbies, playdates. High time for a holiday at the Familienhotels Südtirol. After all, November is the perfect time for wellness with the whole family.
Cosy and warm as a tiled stove
From around the age of three, children can go into the sauna, as long as their paediatrician gives the green light. The golden rule: little ones sit right at the bottom, where it’s coolest. Three minutes is plenty to start with, no more than six, and two rounds are enough. Then comes the best part: a lukewarm shower (no ice baths!), a drink of water, snuggling up and soaking in that cosy warmth. After all, the heat stays in the body for a good while, just like in an old tiled stove. And if the little ones can’t keep still on the lounger? A foot massage or an exciting book usually does the trick.
Wrinkly finger alert
Splashing, floating, diving: in warm water, children forget the grey skies outside in no time. And after half an hour in the water, someone is bound to call out, “Look, Mummy, my fingers have gone all wrinkly!” No need to worry, that’s perfectly normal. In warm water, the tiny blood vessels in the fingertips contract and the skin puckers up. What’s it for? One theory suggests the grooves work like the tread on a car tyre, giving wet objects more grip. Researchers are still debating it. You can try to solve the puzzle yourselves: fish marbles out of a bowl of water, first with smooth fingers, then with wrinkly ones. Who’s faster?
Cucumber slices and daydreams at home
A wellness day calls for some sweet doing-nothing, just in a kid-friendly way. Mix up a face mask from quark and cucumber (yes, Dad joins in too), or blend sugar and oil into a hand scrub. Then: close your eyes and set off on a journey! Imagine lying in warm hay on a South Tyrolean Alpine pasture. The sun tickles your nose, a cowbell chimes somewhere nearby, and the hay smells of summer. Who hears the bell first? Who can smell the hay? Ten peaceful minutes will have passed before anyone notices. The most important thing: wellness should be fun, never a chore.
Fancy even more feel-good moments? At the Familienhotels Südtirol, every grey day turns into a little wellness day. Come and visit!
