Winter fun beyond the ski slopes

South Tyrol holidays = more than “just” skiing!

Do you love being active in winter, but want to experience more than skiing? No problem, there’s so much to do in South Tyrol!

When you think of “South Tyrol in winter”, perfectly groomed ski slopes often automatically spring to mind. And rightly so, because there are so many ski runs of all levels of difficulty available to you in our region! But there’s so much more to experience and do, including beyond the ski slopes. We’ve collected our top tips for you here:

Tobogganing with added excitement: that’s what you get on the Alpine Bob at Merano 2000. The cable car takes you up from Falzeben near Hafling to Piffing, where the 1-kilometre-long toboggan run begins. You glide through countless bends and hairpins back down to the Falzeben valley station – before heading up again! You can regulate the speed yourself, meaning it’s easy to adapt it to the age and wishes of your kids. During the thrilling ride, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the wintry landscape.

Ice-skating indoors and outdoors, depending on the weather: whether you’re attempting your first glides or skilfully whizzing around and spinning pirouettes, there are various artificial and natural ice rinks in the Merano area. We recommend contacting them in advance to check that skates are available to rent.

Bad weather alternatives? You’ll find those here, too – because when it’s super chilly and rainy (or snowy!) outside, indoor activities help keep your kids happy and entertained. Visit one of the indoor pools in South Tyrol, for example Therme Merano, which features pools, saunas, and more. Or you can take a trip to a museum or an escape room where your kids can solve riddles, puzzles, and get hands on. The bad weather? Already forgotten!

So you see, every day doesn’t have to be spent on your skis or snowboards. There’s a wide range of exciting alternatives that make winter days in South Tyrol incredible fun for the whole family. What do you fancy doing first?
