Family adventures at waterfalls and streams

Summer | Val Venosta | Active

Crystal-clear, refreshing … and educational!

Your mountain-stream adventures in the Val Venosta/Vinschgau valley

Ice-cold water that revitalises your senses and refreshes your feet: Mountain streams and waterfalls are the perfect places to cool off on hot summer days.

Lukas runs merrily along the narrow forest path that hugs the curves of the crystal-clear mountain stream. He wades – a little cautiously, but happily – through the stream and lets the cool water refresh his legs, his mum and uncle following along behind. Lukas is thrilled, because this is the first time that his uncle has joined them on a family holiday. That makes his discovery tour along the wild stream in the Val Venosta/Vinschgau valley even more exciting. And this stream is just one of many – there are so many more places to splash and cool off around here!

The streams and waterfalls in the Val Venosta/Vinschgau valley are a natural adventure playground – for children and adults alike. Along the well-signposted and easy-to-walk paths, you’ll discover little wooden bridges, cosy picnic spots, and places where you can enjoy refreshment galore while the kids play in the water.

Trafoi, the idyllic mountain village at the gateway to the Passo dello Stelvio/Stilfser Joch pass, is a prime example of a place with aquatic adventures. Why? The name of the village can be traced back to the term “tres fontes”, meaning “three springs”, which refers to three waterfalls in the valley. While your little ones watch wide-eyed as the water gushes out from between the rocks and then winds its way through the forest floor, you lean back on a wooden bench, take a deep breath, and savour the fresh forest air.

Near the Trafoi stream, you’ll find the “Three Sacred Fountains of Trafoi”, a popular – and legendary – place of pilgrimage. The three springs are rumoured to have healing powers – and in the small Marienkirchlein chapel, there are a number of wooden prostheses on display that are said to prove just that. All this means you can have fun in nature and learn all kinds of interesting things about South Tyrolean history – perfect for your next family adventure!
