Rainy weather is museum weather – and there are so many in South Tyrol!

Rainy weather doesn’t mean there’s nothing to experience on holiday – quite the opposite, in fact! Here are our top tips for rainy days.

You’re sitting at your family hotel, the November fog drifting past the window. A few raindrops are falling, pattering rhythmically on the windowsill. But come rain or shine, kids always want to experience something. That means it’s time to hit the museum! We have 4 tips for you: all South Tyrolean museums where your kids can explore to their hearts’ content and learn something new to boot.

First, let’s head to the South Tyrol Museum of Nature in Bolzano. Across its two floors, you’ll encounter animals, feel the surface and composition of rock, reconstruct landscapes – and learn all kinds of exciting things about geology and the habitats of wild animals in South Tyrol. The special exhibitions change regularly. The current exhibition is called “Grass and Teeth” and is all about pasture farming in South Tyrol.

Next, it’s time to visit museums created by a mountaineering legend: the Messner Mountain Museums Ripa at Bruneck Castle and Corones on Mt Plan de Corones/Kronplatz, both devised by extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner. Ripa is an interactive place where stories of mountain folk from all over the world are made audible, tangible, and visible. Kids’ eyes begin to light up as they encounter the cultures of far-off lands. At Corones, on the other hand, everything revolves around mountaineering as an art form, challenges, and pioneering spirit. The museum building itself was designed by star architect Zaha Hadid.

The last museum we’d like to introduce to you is DoloMythos, a place where imagination meets ancient rock. Dinosaurs encounter Dolomites spirits in legends, treasure hunts lead through myth-filled exhibition halls, and playfulness interweaves with knowledge. Ready for an adventure?
