Tips for a green celebration

A green Christmas?

Let’s do it!

A Christmas that’s not white, but green – in the spirit of sustainability – makes people, animals, and the environment happy.

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? We can’t make it snow, but we do have a few simple tips to help make your Christmas green and environmentally friendly. Decorations, gifts, wrapping … every change, however small, has a big impact.

Eco-friendly decorations
Decorations don’t always have to be made of plastic or used once then thrown away. Here are a few decoration ideas that create festive cheer while still being environmentally friendly:

  • Garlands made from paper stars, homemade from old newspaper or leftover paper from crafting
  • Decorations made from dried orange slices that smell fantastic and create a warm atmosphere
  • Lanterns made from old jars, decorated with fir branches, straw, cinnamon sticks, or pine cones
  • Homemade Advent wreaths made from fir branches, dried fruit, moss, etc.

Sustainable gift ideas for the whole family
It’s not just the children who enjoy Christmas presents, but their parents and grandparents do, too. And Mother Nature loves it when the gifts and packaging are sustainable and environmentally friendly. Here are our gift tips:

  • Cardboard play worlds, for example playhouses, castles, pirate ships, etc., which are easy to recycle and save resources
  • Toys made from wood or organic cotton
  • Craft sets and learning kits made from sustainable materials, wooden marble runs, etc.
  • Children’s books about the environment, energy, and nature conservation that promote awareness of environmental protection and give the gift of knowledge
  • Second-hand games that are slightly used but still look like new
  • Time together, for example during excursions, experiences, family time
  • Homemade gifts, such as crocheted hats, socks knitted using organic wool, etc.
  • Furoshiki gift wrapping (reusable cotton cloths) or wrapping made from old newspaper

Get creative – and have fun!
