This mountain lake nestles amid woods at an elevation of 3,400 ft/1,036 m and reflects the Sciliar/Schlern mountain on its surface. It ranks as one of the finest lakes in the Alps and the Italian environmental organisation Legambiente has distinguished it for the high quality of its water and its intact eco-system. The lake‘s surface measures just one hectare, half of which is designated as a biotope. Its maximum depth is 11 ½ feet.
There are plenty of jetties and wooden platforms for sunbathers, the water is warm enough for bathing in summer, pedal boats are available for hire, a restaurant is situated directly beside the lake, while in winter it draws skating enthusiasts from the area.
