The most beautiful climbing garden in South Tyrol

Our tip: Juval climbing garden

Climbing with kids? At the Juval Castle in Val Venosta/Vinschgau you will find perhaps the most versatile climbing garden in South Tyrol for families.

The Juval climbing garden is a real highlight for kids who love climbing. And for families, it is one of the most beautiful climbing gardens in South Tyrol – a real natural wonder! This is not only due to the fantastic view of the Juval Castle. The particularly family-friendly rock is easily accessible, versatile, and beautifully situated.

Season

From April to October the rock is easily accessible. We recommend you to visit it in the quieter spring and autumn months as exerpience shows that there is less activity in the climbing garden then. After rain it takes not long for the rock wall to dry up again. Thanks to the different expositions you will always find a pleasant place: cool and shady or warm and sunny. The nearby bank of the Schnalerbach river invites you to a family picnic during the climbing break – a jump into the cool water is also possible, so pack your swimsuit!

Difficulty

A total of 70 climbing routes of varying difficulty in 15 sectors offer everything a climber's heart desires. Difficulties range from 3c to 8a, so that both young and old climbers get their money's worth. The offer ranges from boulder walls to 3-rope routes. Most routes are 20 to 30 metres long.

Rock conditions

The rock in the Juval climbing garden is gneiss, a granite with a good grip, which forms many not too rough holds and kicks. Climbing here is incredibly varied. In the first sectors you can expect positively sloping walls with larger cracks and slabs, ideal for beginners. The following sectors require more strength and technique. Here you will find overhanging, exposed, flat, or narrow cracks and walls.

Our tip

After a day in perhaps the most beautiful climbing garden in South Tyrol, be sure to visit the Vinschger Bauernladen. There you can refill your batteries with tasty coffee and cake and buy delicious regional souvenirs from local farms. By doing so, you are also supporting the Val Venosta/Vinschgau farmers who care for the surrounding natural landscape.

Directions, parking, and access

The Juval climbing garden is only a stone's throw from the SS38 state road – and yet it is located in the middle of nature. Coming from the north, between Naturns and Staben, there is a turnoff to Val Senales/Schnalstal. Pass it and immediately afterwards turn right. There you can use the free parking lot of the Vinschger Bauernladen.

From there follow the signs along the Schnalerbach river for about 10 minutes on foot to the individual sectors. In spite of the short access we recommend sturdy shoes.

Have fun,
The Brunner Family from Familienwellness Residence Tyrol
