We already booked our summer and autumn holidays in South Tyrol some time ago. Will the borders be open by then?

Italy opened its borders to foreign countries on 3rd June. From this date on, entry is possible again for all citizens of the European Union and the Schengen area. There is no longer a quarantine requirement in Italy. You can find more details about travelling to Italy on the websites of the competent authorities (Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs) of your destination country.

Can I postpone or cancel my holiday if new entry restrictions are introduced in South Tyrol or in my country of origin?
In this case it is possible to rebook your stay or cancel it. Please contact the hotel you booked directly to find out the exact conditions. It is also possible to convert the deposit into a voucher.

Can I cancel the trip if a close family member falls ill with Covid-19 and I cannot/do not want to travel?
The Familienhotels Südtirol have relaxed their cancellation conditions during this uncertain period, but we still recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance which covers the costs in the event that a first- or second-degree relative falls ill.

What measures are taken when a Covid case occurs in a hotel?
If a suspicious case occurs in the hotel, the person concerned is isolated and the responsible medical service is informed immediately. After evaluating the clinical symptoms, a PCR test is carried out if necessary. The result is available the next day. If the result is positive, an individual decision is made as to the correct procedure. Contact with other hotel guests will be prevented in any case.

What happens if I or my family members fall ill with Covid-19 while on holiday?
If flu-like symptoms and/or fever occur, to protect others you should contact reception immediately by telephone and in the meantime not leave the room. Our staff will immediately contact the dedicated hotline to clarify further course of action and initiate all necessary steps. Please do not worry too much since all our staff are well trained and know exactly what to do in an emergency. You can rely on us to help you in case of an emergency.

We would like to postpone our planned holiday. Is that possible? Do we have to expect different rates depending on the season?
Depending on availability, a postponement of the holiday is certainly possible. Please contact the Familienhotel of your choice directly. Together we will find the best solution for you and subsequently clarify pricing.

Is it compulsory to wear mouth and nose protection at the hotel? If so, in which areas?
In South Tyrol it is obligatory to wear mouth and nose protection in all public areas if the minimum distance of one metre to other people cannot be maintained. Our staff always wear masks or visors prescribed by law.

What about keeping the safety distances at the hotel? What measures have been taken?
The furniture has been arranged in all public areas of the hotels so that the safety distances prescribed by law can always be maintained. Despite these distances, we are there to support you with our customary warmth so that you can feel completely at ease.

In collaboration with leading experts we have further developed our hygiene measures and have devised detailed cleaning schedules to guarantee you maximum safety during your holiday. Our cleaning staff undergoes continuous training, and compliance with the guidelines is regularly checked.

I or another family member is experiencing symptoms. Where can we get help?

Our Familienhotels work closely with the doctor responsible or the appropriate medical authorities. Our staff will ensure that you receive immediate medical attention.

What kind of medical care do COVID-19 patients receive in South Tyrol?
All GPs are trained in dealing with suspected cases. As a rule, they inform the medical authorities who arrange for a nasopharyngeal swab to be taken, which is repeated after 24 hours for confirmation. Pre-hospital triage and isolated areas for COVID patients have been established in all hospitals in South Tyrol. Intensive care patients are cared for in the Bolzano provincial hospital.

What protective measures have been taken for employees?
The body temperature of employees is measured daily before starting work. If their temperature is above 37.5⁰C they are denied access. They are also denied access if they have had contact with an infected person in the past 14 days or have spent time in a high-risk area. All employees wear the protective clothing required during their work and are continuously updated on all hygiene and safety measures.

How do check-in and check-out work?
Both the check-in and check-out procedures are kept as short as possible. Each of the Familienhotels Südtirols will inform you in detail about the formalities before arrival and departure.

How are the guest rooms cleaned after departure?
After each departure, the rooms will be put ‘out of order’ for a few hours and then thoroughly cleaned and disinfected by specially trained cleaning staff.

What happens to rooms in which a sick guest has stayed?
These rooms are put ‘out of order’ for three days and then disinfected with an ioniser which reliably kills viruses.

What hygiene and safety measures have generally been taken?
Over the past few weeks, we have worked with experienced experts to draw up a detailed cleaning and hygiene protocol. All public spaces and surfaces that are frequently touched are cleaned and disinfected with selected agents at predefined intervals. For personal hygiene you will find disinfectant dispensers at various points throughout the establishments. Further measures have been taken by the Familienhotel you have chosen.

Are childcare and other leisure activities offered?

Yes, childcare and other leisure activities will continue to be offered subject to current safety regulations and legal requirements. For example, the children are looked after in small groups. In any case, most of the activities of the unique Familix Nature Programme take place outdoors.

Can playrooms and playgrounds be used?
Certainly, but in compliance with the safety regulations. Please understand that for reasons of hygiene, play equipment that is difficult to clean (e.g. ball trampoline, cuddly toys, etc.) is not available.

What rules do we have to follow in the restaurant?
At all Familienhotels Südtirols all legal guidelines are mandatory. In addition, each hotel has taken further measures such as disinfectant dispensers, extension of meal times, disposable utensils, etc., to guarantee you maximum safety. Do we have to wear mouth and nose protection in the dining room?
When entering and leaving the room, and whenever you are unable to maintain the minimum distance of one metre from other guests, it is mandatory to wear mouth and nose protection. Children under six years old are not required to wear a mask in Italy. Nose and mouth protection can of course be taken off at your table.

Are indoor swimming pools and saunas open?
Outdoor pools, indoor pools, and saunas are open in compliance with legal regulations. Bathing fun awaits you outside. Rules of keeping distance apply here as well.

What are the current rules of conduct in South Tyrol?
A minimum distance of one metre must be kept between people who do not live in the same household, both outdoors and indoors. If this distance cannot be maintained, the wearing of mouth and nose protection is mandatory. You can decide whether you cover your mouth and nose area in public with a surgical mask, a cloth mask, a visor, a tubular cloth, or a scarf.

Can we move freely in South Tyrol? Are museums, castles, etc. open?

You can move freely in the whole of South Tyrol and use all public transport in compliance with safety regulations. Most of the museums, castles, and sights have been open since 18th May. We would be happy to give you tips for excursions in the surrounding area.

Are bars, restaurants and shops currently open?

Yes, bars, restaurants, and shops are open again. Some bars and restaurants are currently still subject to limited opening hours.
