The most important questions regarding your holiday in our family hotels at a glance

Arrival and booking conditions

Can I enter South Tyrol without problems?

All borders are open. Still, entry from all EU countries, Switzerland and the UK is only possible with a negative PCR or antigen test result that is not older than 48 hours until 21 December 2020. In addition, one must present a self-declaration upon entry and register online with the South Tyrolean medical service. Persons from other Italian regions are currently not allowed to travel to South Tyrol for tourist reasons.

Persons from other EU countries, Switzerland and Great Britain, who enter South Tyrol from 21 December 2020 up to and including 6 January 2021 without an urgent reason (work, study, health), must in any case and even with a negative test result quarantine for 14 days. Travelling between regions and leaving Italy is not possible without urgent reasons.

Based on current information (as of 10 December 2020), entry without restrictions will be possible again from 7 January 2021.

Is it possible to enter the country by public transport?

Regional and long-distance trains as well as long-distance buses run without restrictions according to the timetable.

Are there special corona safety regulations in Italy for journeys in private cars?

If all passengers live in the same household, there are no provisions. Otherwise, a minimum distance of one metre applies even when travelling in a private car. If the distance is less than one metre, all passengers must wear mouth and nose protection.

What does the current travel warning of the Robert Koch Institute mean for our planned holiday in South Tyrol?

This travel warning is not a travel ban. It is, however, connected with the obligation to register on www.einreiseanmeldung.de before your arrival in Germany. You must carry this registration with you when you enter Germany. After your return, you will have to go into a 10-day quarantine, which can only be ended with a negative test result after the fifth day after your entry at the earliest.

I am an Austrian citizen. Can I spend my holiday in South Tyrol without any further requirements?

Just like the Italian government, the Austrian government is planning stricter entry regulations between mid-December and 10 January 2021. Accordingly, all persons returning from a risk area (countries with a 14-day incidence higher than 100 per 100,000 inhabitants) must quarantine for ten days. This quarantine can be ended after five days at the earliest by means of a negative PCR test result.

As a Swiss citizen, can I spend my holiday in South Tyrol without any further requirements?

As of today, a holiday in South Tyrol is not subject to any further conditions until 19 December 2020 and from 7 January 2021.

Can we get tested in South Tyrol?

We recommend that you get tested in your country of origin, even though there are some accommodations, pharmacies, and private healthcare facilities in South Tyrol that offer various tests.

After the travel warning has been issued, I would like to cancel my holiday? Is this possible?

In this case, please contact the Familienhotel Südtirol of your choice directly. Our host families are very accommodating in view of the current situation and will inform you about the exact situation on site. Together you will certainly find the best solution.

In view of the current situation I’m no longer sure whether to book my planned winter holiday. What do you recommend?

You can book your winter holiday in the Familienhotels Südtirol without any worries. All our member hotels are always ready to listen to your needs and provide you with comprehensive information about the current travel regulations and the situation on site.

Can I postpone or cancel my holiday if new entry restrictions are introduced in South Tyrol or in my country of origin?

In this case it is possible to rebook your stay or cancel it. Please contact the hotel you booked directly to find out the exact conditions. It is also possible to convert the deposit into a voucher.

Can I cancel the trip if a close family member falls ill with Covid-19 and I cannot/do not want to travel?

The Familienhotels Südtirol have relaxed their cancellation conditions during this uncertain period until further notice, but we still recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance which covers the costs in the event that a first- or second-degree relative falls ill.

What measures are taken when a Covid case occurs in a hotel?

The competent authorities have defined different security protocols to be used depending on the specific case.

What happens if I or my family members fall ill with Covid-19 while on holiday?

If flu-like symptoms and/or fever occur, to protect others you should contact reception immediately by telephone and in the meantime not leave the room. Our staff will immediately contact the dedicated hotline to clarify further course of action and initiate all necessary steps. Please do not worry too much since all our staff are well trained and know exactly what to do in an emergency. You can rely on us to help you in case of an emergency.

We would like to postpone our planned holiday. Is that possible? Do we have to expect different rates depending on the season?

Depending on availability, a postponement of the holiday is certainly possible. Please contact the Familienhotel of your choice directly. Together we will find the best solution for you and subsequently clarify pricing.

Safety regulations in the hotel

Is it mandatory to wear mouth and nose protection at the hotel? If so, in which areas?

In South Tyrol it is obligatory to wear mouth and nose protection in all public areas and keep a minimum distance of one metre to other people. Our staff always wear masks or visors prescribed by law.

What about safety distances in the hotel? What measures have been taken?

In all public areas of the hotel, the furniture has been arranged so that the safety distance prescribed by law can easily be maintained. Despite the distance, we are there to support you with our usual warmth so that you can feel completely at ease.

Have you introduced special hygiene measures to prevent the virus from spreading in the hotel?

At the Familienhotels Südtirol, we have always attached great importance to hygiene and cleanliness. In collaboration with leading experts we have further developed our hygiene measures and have devised detailed cleaning schedules to guarantee you maximum safety on holiday. Our cleaning personnel undergoes continuous training, and compliance with the guidelines is regularly checked.

I or another family member is experiencing symptoms. Where can we get help?

Our Familienhotels work closely with the responsible doctor or the appropriate medical authorities. Our staff will ensure that you receive immediate medical attention.

What kind of medical care do COVID-19 patients receive in South Tyrol?

All GPs are trained in dealing with suspected cases. As a rule, they inform the medical authorities who arrange for a nasopharyngeal swab to be taken, which is repeated after 24 hours for confirmation. Pre-hospital triage and isolated areas for COVID-19 patients have been established in all hospitals in South Tyrol. Intensive care patients are cared for in the provincial hospital in Bolzano.

What protective measures have been taken for employees?

The body temperature of employees is measured every day before work. If their temperature exceeds 37.5⁰C they are denied access to the premises, as well as if they have had contact with an infected person in the past 14 days or have been in a risk area. All employees wear the prescribed protective clothing during their shift and are continuously trained in all hygiene and safety measures.

Staying in the hotel and in South Tyrol

How do check-in and check-out work?

Both the check-in and check-out procedures are kept as short as possible. Each of the Familienhotels Südtirols will inform you in detail about the formalities before arrival and departure.

How are the guest rooms cleaned after departure?

After each departure, the rooms will be put ‘out of order’ for a few hours and then thoroughly cleaned and disinfected by specially trained cleaning staff.

What happens to rooms in which a sick guest has stayed?

These rooms are put ‘out of order’ for three days and then disinfected with an ioniser which reliably kills viruses.

What hygiene and safety measures have generally been taken?

Over the past few weeks, we have worked with experienced experts to draw up a detailed cleaning and hygiene protocol. All public spaces and surfaces that are frequently touched are cleaned and disinfected with selected agents at predefined intervals. For personal hygiene you will find disinfectant dispensers at various points throughout the establishments. Further measures have been taken by the Familienhotel you have chosen – please contact them directly to find out more.

Are childcare and other leisure activities offered?

Yes, childcare and other leisure activities will continue to be offered subject to current safety regulations and legal requirements. For example, the children are looked after in small groups. In any case, most of the activities of the unique Familix Nature Programme take place outdoors.

Can playrooms and playgrounds be used?

Certainly, but in compliance with the legal regulations. Please understand that for reasons of hygiene, play equipment that is difficult to clean (e.g. ball trampoline, cuddly toys etc.) is not available.

What rules do we have to follow in the restaurant?

At all Familienhotels Südtirols all legal guidelines are mandatory. In addition, each hotel has taken further measures such as disinfectant dispensers, extension of meal times, disposable utensils etc., to guarantee you maximum safety. For further information, please contact the Familienhotel you have chosen.

Do we have to wear mouth and nose protection in the dining room?

When entering and leaving the room it is mandatory to wear mouth and nose protection. Children under six years old are not required to wear mouth and nose protection. Mouth and nose protection is not required when sitting at the table.

Are indoor pools and saunas open?

The hotel’s outdoor pools, indoor pools, and saunas are open in compliance with legal regulations. Bathing fun awaits you outside. Rules of keeping distance apply here as well. Public pools, thermal centres, fitness studios, and other leisure facilities will remain closed for the time being.

What are the current rules of conduct in South Tyrol?

Both outdoors and indoors, mouth and nose protection must be worn and a distance of one metre must be kept from other people who do not live in the same household. You can decide whether you cover your mouth and nose area in public with a surgical mask, a cloth mask, a visor, a tubular cloth, or a scarf. Between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., being out in public is only allowed for work or health reasons. In this case a self-declaration must be carried.

Can we move freely in South Tyrol? Are museums, castles etc. open?

You can move freely in the whole of South Tyrol and use all public transport in compliance with safety regulations. Please note that currently only 50% of the normal capacity is allowed in local public transport. Museums, castles, and sights are temporarily closed.

Are bars, restaurants, and shops currently open?

Yes, bars, restaurants and shops are open again since 4 December or 30 November. The general rules on distance apply. In restaurants and bars, no more guests may be present than there are seats. We therefore recommend that you make a reservation before visiting the restaurant. In restaurants and bars, food and drinks may only be served and consumed at the table. All establishments close at 6 p.m.. A maximum of four people may sit at a table, unless they are from the same household. In shops there is a maximum of one customer per 10m²; in shops with an area of less than 20m² a maximum of two customers are allowed in at the same time.

Can I use public transport without restrictions?

Yes, but you must wear mouth and nose protection in means of transport, at railway stations, and at bus stops. Only 50% of the seats may be occupied. Tickets are only available at vending machines and ticket offices. All means of transport are cleaned and disinfected at least once a day.

Are the ski resorts already open?

The ski areas are currently closed and preparing for the planned start of the season on 7 January 2021. By the way: after the heavy snowfalls at the beginning of December, the snow conditions leave nothing to be desired.

What safety regulations apply in cable cars?

All passengers must wear mouth and nose protection both in the waiting area and in the cabins. The body temperature is measured before entering. If it is higher than 37.5⁰C, access is denied. Disinfecting hands before entering is strongly recommended. In any case, crowds of people must be avoided. The cabins are ventilated and disinfected regularly. In the case of chair lifts, the bubbles remain open. Further safety measures for the winter season (e.g. information apps) have been worked out by the single ski areas so that you can hit the slopes without any worries.

How are the infection rates in South Tyrol kept as low as possible?

A five-member expert commission monitors the course of corona infections and adapts the safety and hygiene regulations to the respective situation. After the successful mass test, further regular tests of the population will help to contain the epidemic. For questions which are not of a medical or organisational nature, the following number has been set up: +39 0471 999 999. You can obtain further information from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. as well as from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. as well as from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Of course, you can also contact us at any time if you have any further questions.
