Nils - 35 yearsCavallino Bianco – family holiday in the Gröden Valley

Ben, Lino and the time tree...

For our short family holiday this year it was not just “over the hills and far away”: more precisely, we went to St. Ulrich in the Gröden Valley. The Cavallino Bianco enjoys a marvellous reputation as a place to holiday with children, and all three of us were urgently in need of a relaxing break.

Children are part of the package
Relaxation was a dire necessity. Too much work, too little time for the family and too little time with our son – we just needed a time-out. Alone, with our respective partner and for all of us together.

The Cavallino Bianco understood perfectly and thus the “time tree”, presented to each guest on arrival, also has four branches: “My time”, “Two time”, “Family time” and “Kids time”, each representing a cornerstone of the holiday here, because children too want to – and should – get something out of the experience.

And so we set off to explore: the hotel’s own mini ski piste for kids to have their first go at skiing, the dwarves’ grotto, where the family can all strengthen the body’s defences, the many play opportunities available around the hotel and of course Lino, the little mouse mascot who can be found everywhere, and whose Linoland children’s world offers the right level of care for children of all ages: not just for playing and having fun, but also for eating and even sleepovers on Saturdays.

Unfortunately, the tooth fairy decided that not all of these things could be explored as soon as we wished. Bad moods and the howling of a teething infant are not normally so well received in public; they are also a real dampener when you’re on holiday. We saw ourselves already back in the car and on the way home again, but no: at the Cavallino Bianco children are so well looked after that it is easy for stressed parents to switch off and relax despite everything.

The room’s separate areas for parents and children allowed our restless child to sleep without being disturbed. Lino’s evening show offered perfect entertainment for the little ones (who wouldn’t like to be cuddled by a giant fluffy mouse?) and for dinner we were able to order a soft cereal dish, just right for a sore mouth. After a freshly made children’s tea, prepared in the tea kitchen (open 24 hours a day), Benni went straight off to sleep. And now, to the gentle sounds of piano music, two reassured parents who had on this first evening been collecting #familymoments, could enjoy an evening cocktail relaxing in Posta's Bar… thanks to the enormous bed in our room we also had a peaceful night’s sleep even with our little one lying between us.

All‘s well that ends well – on with the fun
The next morning saw our 1½ year old in a better mood, so we set about enjoying ourselves: the parents went off for a massage or to the sauna, while Ben had fun in the ball pit in Linoland, where the numerous carers know exactly how to ensure kids have fun. After a few hours our muscles were relaxed, our little boy was all played out and we could enjoy a quiet time as a family in the pool area. After plenty of sliding and splashing about it was then time for a nap, and later on for the cake buffet. The high point of the day was however the horse-drawn carriage tour of the village, organised by the hotel.

Unfortunately we didn’t manage to go skiing on this family holiday, even though the Seiser Alm ski area begins right outside the hotel door – we simply enjoyed our time in the hotel too much. Nevertheless, we will definitely pack our skis for the next visit and, thanks to the hotel’s own ski school for children, Ben too can discover something new – this time hopefully without toothache.
