Grandmother Claudia - 70 years oldWhere the emphasis is clearly on the family: the Family Aparthotel Tyrol in Naturns

A welcome surprise

My daughter and my two-year old granddaughter had planned a surprise weekend away for me. For days they had been acting mysteriously… what had the two of them in mind for me?
As a proud grandmother I was naturally particularly pleased to be able to spend time with my family. “We’ll set off straight after lunch”, they said. But where to?

Great mothers also make great grandmothers
These were the words of my daughter, grinning, as she held open the car door for me. The boot was crammed full. We headed for Meran and then on to Naturns, where we parked outside a hotel called the Tyrol.

My daughter got out of the car and said: “You’ve done so much for us lately so I’d like to give you a thank-you present. Welcome to our weekend adventure for the three of us!” I noticed tears coming to my eyes. I had not expected something like this! I had to pull myself together quickly so as not to burst into tears of joy…

A family palace with fun guaranteed
We entered the hotel and were warmly welcomed. The very pleasant receptionist immediately took us to our room, or rather, a whole flat with every possible four-star hotel comfort! There were large, light and airy rooms in magnificent country-house style, with two double beds, a large bathroom and even a kitchen. Outside the apartment was a lovely little garden and a giant heated outdoor pool with an even bigger slide. We were flabbergasted – especially little Emily, who scampered round the apartment, wild with joy!

Three generations in search of adventure
We first unpacked our luggage then went off to explore: as well as the outdoor pool, Emily was thrilled by the extremely large playground with its balancing games, tree house and lots more besides. In the basement was a pirate-themed indoor pool for kids and a paddling pool with a range of water attractions. There was no escaping this kids’ paradise: Emily was beaming all over her face! My daughter and I looked at each other and immediately saw that we had no choice other than to spend a little while there. But Emily’s delight at playing on the slide and jumping on and off the giant crocodile was absolutely contagious! My daughter at once took the opportunity to do a few lengths’ crawl in the bright indoor pool next door.

When every wish comes true…
The basement contained not only saunas, water beds and a meditation room, but also a wine cellar for guests – not to mention a fan area for teens, a baby club, a play castle, and even a cinema for the children! Everything was there – an unbelievable choice of entertainment and relaxation.

The residence also has plenty by way of baby accessories for outdoor mums. Buggies, bicycles, E-bikes, family bikes and baby carriers are free for guests to use, so you can enjoy the great outdoors to the full. Personally, however, I was quite happy in the snug sauna and the mystical meditation area while my daughter and granddaughter watched the kiddies show in the cinema. A troupe of clowns performed magic tricks, bringing a smile to everyone’s face and entertaining the audience with amusing tricks.

Afterwards we all met up in the apartment, relaxed but hungry. So without further ado we ordered a pizza from room service and the three of us, mother, daughter and granddaughter, all cuddled up on the sofa together – the perfect moment! We could of course have also indulged ourselves with the hotel’s multi-course menu, but we just preferred to spend time on our own.

Children are life, grandchildren the topping
My final word on the matter: for me, the weekend was the perfect relaxing break! The Familienhotel Tyrol is a wonderful residence where the emphasis is clearly on families. We have already made sure of booking our next stay! :-)
