Where is South Tyrol?

Geology with a difference

Geology with a difference

The "Geoparc Bletterbach" provides fascinating insight into the history of the earth – an experience far removed from dull school textbooks.

The Bletterbach Gorge is often called South Tyrol’s “Grand Canyon”. Located in the south of South Tyrol, it can be entered close to the village Aldino/Aldein, a mountain village to the south of Bolzano/Bozen where there is also a visitors’ centre.

A walking tour in the gorge brings to life the history of our planet, with dinosaur footprints and all kinds of fossils found in the most diverse rock strata. Visitors can avail themselves of guided walking tours through the Geoparc on offer until 4th November. The starting point is the visitors’ centre.
